The IP rating (Ingress Protection) indicates how well a fixture is protected against dust and moisture. It consists of two digits: the first digit represents protection against solid objects (such as dust), and the second digit represents protection against moisture and water.
Here is an overview of some common IP ratings:
For outdoor lighting, a minimum of IP44 is recommended. For lighting exposed to rain and severe weather conditions, IP65 or higher is more suitable.
This depends on the volume in which the lighting is placed:
* Specific requirements for maximum voltages and heights apply! Use of electrical equipment should be limited as much as possible!
IP65 means that a fixture is dust-tight and protected against water jets. IP67 goes a step further and offers protection against temporary immersion in water.
A lamp with IP68 is completely dust-tight and can remain underwater for extended periods. This is ideal for pond and swimming pool lighting.
